Did you know that the cost of living in Hungary is significantly lower compared to other European countries?

If you are a citizen of an EU country, then you do not need a visa to go and experience the beauty of Hungary. You can even search for a job and work in Hungary, you are not required to apply for a work permit if you are going to work.

However, if you are a Non-EU citizen, and want to take up employment in Hungary, then you will need to apply for a work permit. You need to be employed by a local Hungarian company with a labor contract. The residence permit for the purpose of gainful employment will be issued based on the validity and purposes of the employment contract.

If you want to stay for more than 90 days in country, then you need to apply for a residence permit. A temporary residence permit is valid for five (5) years and be renewed, if approved. If you have continuously lived in Hungary legally, then you can apply for a permanent residence permit which will allow you to live indefinitely in Hungary.

EU Blue Card is a combination of residence and work permit for highly skilled and highly qualified individuals who are not citizens of EU countries. The validity of an EU Blue Card is maximum of four (4) years. It can also be extended for another four (4) years. If you are granted with an EU Blue Card, you can only work for the employer and job title to which it was issued.

To apply for an EU Blue Card, you need to:

  1. Have a valid labor contract or job offer from local Hungarian employer
  2. Meet the minimum salary threshold in the member state
  3. Present documents proving that the national legal requirements are met (for regulated professions)
  4. Present documents proving that the relevant higher professional qualifications are met (for unregulated professionals)
  5. Have a valid passport or travel document
  6. Have a valid health insurance coverage
